This maybe the podcast I’ve done most research for in the history of the Creative Introvert, and not just book research. It’s a topic that’s been brewing somewhere in my mind, whether it’s consciously or otherwise, and I finally have my ideas in a place where I’m ready to share and fairly confident in my ability to give you something that’s genuinely useful, especially if you’re interested in tapping into your source of greatest creative potential, getting into that flow state, and living from a place that feels true for you.

On today's episode I chat with Heather Hollick all about what networking really is and how to build real relationships especially if you're an introvert.

We have a super fun conversation talking about:

  • How to help your friends to understand your introversion
  • How Heather learnt networking skills and reinvented the meaning of networking in the process
  • Why you already have a network and how to bring it back to life
  • The number one question you should ask at networking events (and how to avoid ‘what do you do?)
  • A defence of small talk!

This is something that’s taken me quite a few years and many, many chats with various creative introverts to discover: not all tips to be productive work for me or you or anyone for that matter.

Yeah, I know. Mind = blown.

Maybe you already knew that. But maybe you didn’t and you were like me, wondering why the fuck the advice of this hyper-productive guru just didn’t work when you tried to apply it in your own life.

The truth is, we’re not all identical beings. Nor are we totally unique either. We’re this annoyingly intricate, yet beautifully nuanced jumble of similarities and differences. Which… makes giving advice on things like productivity and getting stuff done… rather tricky.

And I’ll be the first to admit I’ve tried to do this. I’ve tried to speak to you, and thousands of other Creative Introverts over the years, and tried to cover all cases, but I’m always going to fall short. I’m always going to miss the edge cases, the rebels, the square pegs, and that irritates the heck out of me.

The truth is: only YOU know you. Yes, someone else can be very helpful, maybe even necessary, for shining a light on parts of ourselves we didn’t know were there, but it’s really up to us to see what’s being illuminated, accept it, and learn from it.

Then we can take action that fits us like a snug glove. That’s what today’s podcast is all about. I’m going to guide you through three different tools you can use to figure out what productivity tips to ignore and which will actually work for you.

Today’s podcast guest is a business and marketing consultant and strategist - and one who has a refreshingly different take on those things that as creative introverts we tend to want to avoid - namely that sales, marketing and general putting-self-out-there piece.

We have a super fun conversation talking about:

  • Why it's okay (and even preferable) to start small and grow slow
  • Understanding the 5-steps of your client's journey from no idea who you are to part of your tribe
  • Why you don't need social media to start your business and how you can dig deep into real relationships instead
