One of the ways I work with people is as a coach, someone to help guide you in a creative project, whether it’s a one off like getting a marketing strategy together or building a website or launching an online course – or find a creative direction that will be aligned to your personality, preferences and superpowers.
And when I’m working with people, one of the most common pain points is basically related to getting shit done. Like… you have the idea, the vision, you have the intention or goal, you have the desire. But… something gets in your way.
And over the course of 4ish years since working with people 1-1 like this, the most common issue I see around getting things done is: people don’t know whether they are a starter, finisher or pivoter and (even if they do know) they aren’t working in a way to make the most out of their type.
So, my plan for today is to help you identify which type you are and once you know, help you figure out what to do about it to make getting things done easier and more enjoyable than ever before.

Today we have part two of: How to Find Flow in 2021. In this two-parter I've been diving into the astrology of the moment, and how those energies are going to be reflected in our lives and the world at large.
The planets we spoke about last time were Jupiter and Saturn, who met via a conjunction on Dec 21st of 2020. I also talked about Uranus, who is also involved in this significant planetary alignment, and how this planet and the sign of Aquarius relate to the myth of Prometheus.
From there I talked about the fire that Prometheus brings to mankind, and what that represents symbolically. And while the obvious outer manifestations of that fire are evident everywhere, from technological advancements, the internet, the internet of things being very Uranus in Taurus (where it currently is) as well as mind altering substances.
Finally I got to flow, or ecstasis, or the NOSC that arguably, we're at our best in. It's the state of being that you could say, makes life something worth living.
Now, I'm going to get to the practical, actionable tips based on mostly Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's work and the book Flow, for achieving these peak states and why it's such a good time for this work, with the current planetary alignment we find ourselves in.

Today I want to talk to you about - or even make an argument for - why 2021 is a non-ordinary Year and what the advantage of this is and how to make this year flow, what it means to be in flow and much more. We'll also be talking about this in the context of recent astrological events and those to come in 2021.

Something I like to do for the last show of the year on this podcast is give you a round up of my fave books from the past year. If you get my weekly Museletter you'll know I'm all about them books, and from the replies I get from some of you lovely people, I know that you're also total bookworms.
So 2020 was a great year for reading, many of us had much more time to get our noses in books, and so if you're looking to carry on the reading habit into 2021, hopefully there's something in here that will contribute to your library.

It’s been a while since I’ve spoken about goals and planning and productivity, but it is something that I get asked about a lot – you know, how do you get stuff done.
It seems to be something that many of us will be thinking about as we speed toward the end of 2020 (at last)…
2020 was an indescribably hard year for so many people, and I imagine it won’t take much to make 2021 a “better” year, but I’m sure there are still some of us who are thinking about what we can do personally, to create something we’re proud of in 2021, and basically make up for lost time.

This is a bit of a wildcard episode, which I’ve been thinking about doing for a long time, but only now have I got my sh*t together (i.e. research) and have made it into a thing.
We spoke about myth recently, and the value of myth in our every day lives, whether it’s giving us courage and self-belief to take on life’s obstacles, to giving us a greater sense of meaning and belonging while we’re on this watery rock.
Now, I want to get more into the creative side of myth, and have some fun with some of the archetypal characters we meet in mythology and tie in some pop-psychology, and personality type stuff, just because this is the Creative Introvert ;)
The Plan: I'll tell you about a selection of gods and goddesses who I’ve been learning about and how they can inspire us creatively.
I’ll also be sharing my Myers-briggs analysis of each of these legendary figures - actually its not an analysis, I’m not qualified for that and they aren’t people like you and I are people, so that wouldn’t work. But I did find a way to link the 8 types of introvert (INFP, INTJ, INFJ etc) to each of the gods and goddesses, just for fun.
So if you like you can match your personality type to the corresponding god or goddess, or not - it’s just one way to explore these archetypes. You’ll most likely find that you identify with 2 or 3 of them, or more. And if you would like to argue with my typing PLEASE DO, I would enjoy that (Mercury in Aries) and so feel free to email me your thoughts: hello@thecreativeintrovetr.com
You’ll also be able to download a free PDF guide to all of these gods + goddesses of creativity, summarising the types and giving you tips for working with each archetype at: http://thecreativeintrovert.com/gods

Today I’d like to talk about time. It’s time to talk about time. Why time?
3 of the biggest, most frequent gripes I hear from my coaching clients who are struggling for various reasons to create and get their creations out into the world, are related to time:
1. I don’t have enough time
2. I’m not there yet
3. I’m stuck
In this episode of the Creative Introvert, I'll be explaining what these all have to do with our relationship with time, as well as give you some new ways to think about time.

This episode is titled something like 5 tips for embracing your inner weird, and creating great work but the real title, the secret title is actually: 5 Lessons From a 6 ft 3.5” Rabbit.
So this rabbit I mentioned goes by the name of Harvey, and he is a pooka. (I’m not going to go into it in the episode but you should totally google what is a Pooka P-O-O-K-A)
Some of you will already know who or what I’m talking about but for everyone else, don’t worry, I haven’t totally lost the plot: I’m talking about the rabbit from the 1950s classic film Harvey, based on a play and featuring the charming James Stewart.
Why is this relevant?
I could be making an episode about any of my other fave films (Dumb and Dumber, Jacob’s Ladder, Spirited Away…) but I’m not, don’t worry. The reason Harvey is so relevant I feel, is because I’m interested in the sense that many creative introverts I know have, which is that we’re somehow on the outside, that we don’t fit in, that we’re not approved of by society, that we’re somehow doing “it” wrong (whatever it is.) Just that sense of otherness.
And that can make living the life of a creative and actually fulfilling our true dreams and pursuing our true calling/path VERY difficult. I touched on this in the Self-esteem episode, but basically: we’re all programmed to do our best to fit in to society because it makes us feel safe, it’s the smart thing to do in order to survive and not be totally outcast and left to defend ourselves.
The problem is of course, we end up squashing our creative spirit, going against our daimon in many cases, and ultimately feeling quite miserable.
So. Thankfully I have some help from my rabbit friend, and that's what I'm sharing in today's episode of The Creative Introvert!

This picks up on the thread I started in the recent episode on People Pleasing, when I mentioned our habit to people please stems from our need to bolster our self-esteem, and promised an episode focussing more on that.
Since reading the book, "Birth and Death of Meaning" by Ernest Becker, I have a lot of new ideas about self-esteem and about “fitting in” to society… and about how we make meaning in our lives, full of suffering as they are.
In this week's episode of the Creative Introvert, I'll be diving into the topic of self-esteem, explaining what it is, why there isn't a problem in seeking to build our self-esteem - but that there may be a better way for us to get it.

According to the good ol Merriam-Webster: “A ritual is a sequence of activities involving gestures, words, actions, or objects, performed in a sequestered place and according to a set sequence.”
Whatever it is, ritual can be seen in a wide variety of symbolic behaviours and are incredibly common regardless of where - or when - you are on the earth.
In this week's episode of the Creative Introvert, I'm taking a look at ritual. More specifically: how we can add a sense of ritual to our creative process and by doing so, imbue our daily lives with more meaning.

Are you a "people pleaser"? This is something that I hear creative introverts say a LOT about themselves, and I thought it was time to tackle this in today's episode. You might have heard of the concept of a Muse before. Even if you haven’t considered it in the way I’ll speak of it today, you’ll have said it: amusement, bemused, museum, music
I argue it’s more than just mere entertainment - we’re speaking about something that captivates us - like a great work of art in a museum or the first time you heard your favourite band live - more of a trance, when we encounter the muse.
Nine journal prompts and an customisable invocation to the Muse, available at thecreativeintrovert.com/muse (nine because the Muses in greek myth were the nine sisters, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, which means ‘memory.’ Their job was to inspire artists and each Muse was responsible for a different art.)
